Sage

Coming soon

What it is

Homegrown dried whole-leaf sage, loose by weight — savory, a little peppery, unmistakably itself.

The sensory experience

Sharp and a little resinous, the same smell whether it’s in a pot on the stove or steeping in a cup. Whole-leaf holds its oil far longer than the crumbled kind — this is meant to still smell like something after a few months in the jar.

Materials

  • Sage leaf (Salvia officinalis)

Provenance

Grown at home and dried whole-leaf rather than crumbled, to keep the oil in the leaf longer.

How it may be used

  • Steeped alone, a few leaves per cup, 5–7 minutes
  • Used in cooking as well as tea
  • Burned loose as incense, if that's more your practice
Safety & use notes
  • Not intended to replace medical care. Consult a doctor if pregnant, nursing, or on medication — sage is generally avoided in large amounts during pregnancy.
